I was just revisiting this and it occurs to me that she reminds me muchly of Mata Hari. Now there’s a good dirtbag story if ever there was one.

Just did some cursory googling and oh my GOD she will be making an appearance in this publication, the sentence "A harlot? Yes! But a traitor? Never!" has sold me.

Her incredibly elaborate stories as to why she *had* to keep her bra on during -ahem- ‘relations’… when it was just to make her boobs look big. Just. 🤌🏻

Wasn’t she also kind of a crappy dancer? There were some Lola echoes there, to me, but the extra spy thing is extra. Love it. Can’t wait to read your reactions to her.

I wonder if any of her behavior could be explained by the syphilis? I think she's worthy of a DTTA Part Deux because I have so many questions!

One of my many favorite things about the writing on the show Dickinson (which if you haven't seen it is well worth the time--it's brilliant) is the repeated obsession Emily Dickinson's sister Lavinia has with Lola Montez and the spider dance--and it's true that the Dickinson's friend was shot by her when he was in California! Amazing. 💃🏻🕷 And then there's this banger of a song: https://open.spotify.com/track/1wnq9TwifJ9ipLUFsm8vKx?si=99a385b7ce524fda
